The Classic Returns!
Back in the early days of webcomics around the year 2000, I finally took my “official” plunge into the market by launching The Asylumantics™ – A quirky comic strip about the lives of several patients who lived in place known as Wrenwood Heights Asylum.
Before the launch of the series, I had posted some odds and ends comics online, but this marked my first efforts in producing an on-going series that I would update regularly.
The series features several characters:
Edgar – An inventor who was wrongly committed by his greedy family to get his patent fortune. He was basically the audiences guy on the inside.
Spooky (Lisa) – A strange Goth girl who could be stable one moment and off on a tangent the next. Most of the stuff that happened in the asylum never seemed to phase her.
Vlad – A guy who claims to be a vampire but only seems to like chicken for some reason. Claims to be the first resident of the hospital but has no proof of his age.
Bread – A naive guy who has a head made of baked goods. He is often swept up into Vlad’s crazy schemes and is his wingman (for better or worse).
Gus – The ghost of the original manager of the asylum. He died on the grounds and is now cursed to haunt the very place he couldn’t stand when he was alive.
Napoe – A nervous little man who is a major germaphobe. Courage is not something you’ll find from him often unless it’s being used to escape danger.
I didn’t realize it at the time, but this mixture of characters made the perfect melting pot for all kinds of non-sequitur humor and general slapstick comedy situations. The series developed a healthy cult following and it’s original run wrapped sometime around 2009.
Now, nearly 25 years later, I present to you the series that started it all. So get ready to dive into the deep end of the chaos pool and laugh yourself silly at the crazy antics of the Wrenwood gang every Monday and Friday right here only at Haunted Pixel Studio.
